About Me

Marvin Toliver (He/They) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), born and raised in East Oakland, CA. Marvin is currently residing in Philadelphia, PA and working as a therapist with the Radical Therapy Center. He’s also a co-founder of the mental health collective Melanated Social Work. Marvin is a queer (Bi-sexual) Black creator, writer, consultant, public speaker, mentor, wedding officiant, and radical educator. He encourages others to see the power within themselves and use their voices to fight for justice. Marvin’s work will be complete when white supremacy is dismantled and ALL Black people are liberated.

Marvin is someone who has always gravitated toward leadership roles both in his personal and professional life. At an early age, Marvin recognized the power he had to encourage and influence others, and has had several positions that helped cultivate that power. Marvin has served with City Year Miami, worked with Treasure Island Job Corps, and held various positions within education that helped shape who he is as a queer Black man navigating the world.

Marvin makes it a point to use this power to fight for change and tackle issues of systemic racism and White Supremacy. He also uses this power to uplift the Black community, LGBTQ+ community, and other groups who have been marginalized in America. Marvin has a particular passion for empowering and supporting Black womxn.

Marvin’s approach is person-centered. Whether you’re working with him in a therapeutic capacity, for consulting, or hiring him as a guest speaker, Marvin makes it a point to ask “What do you need?” or “What would be most helpful for you?”. If you’re not sure, Marvin will thoughtfully work with and hold space for you to figure it out. Marvin takes this work very seriously and will work to ensure your goals are met.

In his spare time, Marvin enjoys being active & outdoors, cooking, singing, connecting with friends and family, traveling, eating, and doing nothing at all.
